Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS)

The EYFS sets the standards for learning and development for children from birth to five years of age. There are four key principles which underpin the curriculum:

A Unique Child
Positive Relationships
Enabling Environments
Learning and Development

There are seven areas of learning, three of these are seen as the prime focus for healthy development of pre-school aged children. They are seen as the foundations of learning:

Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Communication and Language
Physical Development

Alongside these three prime areas there are four specific areas for learning:

Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and design

The Nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and activities are planned according to the statutory framework and the needs and interests of the children. There is a balance of teacher guided and child initiated activities which the children access through free-flow in our indoor and outdoor learning environment.

During their time at Little Badgers the children's development will be recorded in an on-line Learning Journal names 'Tapestry'. Photographs, achievements and progress statements are entered into their Learning Journal which is available for parents to access through a password protected login. Parents are able to contribute to their child's Learning Journal by adding photographs and comments.

Our nursery day follows a flexible timetable.
